I have been reading up on the 1/6th Queens and have come across the image below in Vol VIII of the History of The Queen's Royal Regiment, and on the website http://www.desertrats.org.uk/. It is described in both as being of the 1/6th Queen's in Scafati. Today, when looking at With the East Surreys in Tunisia, Sicily and Italy 1942 - 1945 by Bryn Evans (2012) and published by Pen & Sword, I noted the same image is used on the dust jacket, and within the book is entitled: 'As the battles for Cassino raged, so too did the fighting in the Anzio beachhead. British soldiers look for danger in Anzio.' and is credited to Linda Standen. Could anyone clarify, before I continue to use it with information on the 1/6th Queens in Scafati (http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/26592-george-frank-dyer-no-6099233-16-queens-royal-regiment-west-surrey/#entry640977), whether this is Scafati or indeed Anzio. Thank you for any help to stop me looking like the pratt I could potentially be. (If I haven't succeeded already :P ). Mark
even the people of Scafati think it's Scafati, they ought to know their own town. http://www.grupposcafati1.altervista.org/pagine/territoriofoto.htm
Are you aware of this page on the Queen’s Royal Surrey website that describes the action at Scafati bridge? http://www.queensroyalsurreys.org.uk/monuments/monuments17.html The co-ordinates of the bridge are 40.749836,14.527365 and the memorials can be seen on street view:- What’s more I reckon this the building in the WW2 photo:-
Tony, Thank you for the link and the images. I think you may be correct about the building - it looks like the same bump out. Mark
