Hi All, Prompted by a question on another forum: does anyone know of written accounts by members of the 'Special Night Squads', formed by Orde Wingate back in 1937-8 in Palestine. I have read most of the biographical accounts concerning Wingate himself, 'Fire in the Night' being the most informative. I wondered if there are any more specific books on the Night Squads themselves? Many thanks. Bamboo.
Bredin, Humphrey Edgar Nicholson British officer served with 2nd Bn Royal Ulster Rifles and Special Night Squads in Palestine, 1937-1939
I would be interested to hear if members have information about any operations by the Special Night Squads in the "Triangle of Terror", particularly the Nablus area. Regards
There is another IWM Oral History: Grove, Michael Richard Leslie (Oral history) I id'd this skimming through the results of a search using: "special night squads" + "palestine" Dr. Simon Anglim has written on Wingate and the SNS. His 2007 PhD is on: https://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?rep=rep1&type=pdf&doi=10.1.1.107.925 He later wrote a paper on the SNS as a valid CT tactic.
Thanks for the extra link. Simon put his full research regarding Wingate, including the Palestine period into a book back in 2014: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Orde-Wingate-Unconventional-Warrior-Twenty-First/dp/1783462183
