I'm looking for information relating to Stan Browning who was in the Ox and Bucks (TA) and was captured in late May 1940 in France during the retreat to Dunkirk. I think he was with the 4th battalion and was captured at either Cassel or Watou. Once I have some information then I would like to find out which prisoner of war camp he was interred in - this was in Poland

    Hi Mike

There were two TA battalions in France so to make sure you ID the correct one I would apply for a copy of his service records. If truth be known its the starting point for any serious research.

I'm just about to get ready for work but I do have the Oxand Bucks missing men file for 1940 so I'll have alook through that later if I remember to see if your man is listed.

    Cheers
    Andy

Hi Mike, welcome. As Andy said order his service record so you get the correct information. These take 9-12 months to get and cost 30 pound unless Mum can order then they are free.

Also, PM Andy as he goes to the National Archives KEW regularly and he may be able to get you Stan's liberation Questionnaire. If he filled one out it may have info like camps he was in, where he was caught etc. However it may not have anything in it.

Also, apply for info from the Red Cross, this takes 6-9 months but is free and sometimes they have good info.

    Andy,

Thanks for your help; it would be great to find out where exactly he was taken prisoner - I know he is in a news real taken by the Germans so I may contact IWM to see if they can let me have a copy
