Just the other day while having coffee with a retired dean of a major American university..........

I can confirm Mr Lankford is personaly aquainted with a great number of influential people and high ranking officers who served in WW2.
In the 10 years I have seen him posting (under 30 odd screen names) he has provided a legion of first hand accounts from a great number of his 'buddies' who saw action 1944-45.
If you mention a WW2 Unit Jim probably knows the commanding officer personaly and he will phone him up for some first hand information.
Perhaps Jim could be persuaded to recount the tale of a 'buddy' who found a King Tiger parked up during the Bulge and he destroyed it with a grenade down the hatch whilst the crew were having breakfast inside?

A little explaination of Jim's interaction with David H Lipman would be illuminating as well.

As a pocket historian, you can confirm nothing about me, but the fact that you claim to says everything I need to know about you.

I have spent a great deal of time interviewing American veterans of all ranks who served in a number of different units during WWII. I have enjoyed the honor and privilege of becoming a friend and confidant of many of these fine men. Unlike you, I spent precious little time on Internet discussion forum in comparison to the amount of effort I invested with the veterans. You seem to believe that my attempts to share their stories was a mistake of some sort. Perhaps you are correct, but in my view my time and effort has resulted in a modest body of work that has been generally well received by academic historians. In sharp contrast stands your nonexistent body of published works which well fit Ralph Waldo Emerson’s observation that “a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.” Think, kenny, of what you might have accomplished if you had better spent your time.

My buddy who claimed to have knocked out the Tiger stood by his story until his death, and I have no reason to demean him over it now. In fact, I wonder why this is such a big deal for you. After all, he’s long gone, and to my knowledge never did anything to you.

The Lippman situation is quite simple. I am of the opinion that like you, he felt threatened by someone who actually makes the effort to do more than just "discuss" military history on the Internet. And like you he resorted to some unsavory tactics to try and silence me. It didn't work. In fact, it backfired on him.

There, that about covers it, and you, don’t you think?

    Gentlemen, please.

While this discussion has sometimes taken a humorous guise, the undertone of bitterness is unmistakable and it's not much fun to read. Whatever the rights and wrongs involved moderator intervention is never pleasant, and if things keep on like this it is bound to happen.

Your threats and admission of guilt are duly noted, and I have taken the precaution of making a hard copy of them for future use.

Just the other day while having coffee with a retired dean of a major American university, we somehow got off on the subject of how as we get older we tend to have less and less tolerance for fools, poltroons and bullies. I used you and your hooligans as a unified example of all three, and we had a good laugh at your (pl) expense.

    Have a nice day. :D

For the love of Christ and all the crippled children.....!!!!!

Will you give it a rest? IF this site, and WW2F, is such an intellectual burdern then by all means feel free to be on your way.

It's not that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed this internet p*****g contest, but I actually have a question pertaining to the original subject of this thread.
What is the status of WW2Forum? Is there any progress being made in resolving its problem?

Now that you mention it, I am still getting the redirect from the virus Otto says he gave my computer. Oh well, at least he admitted doing it.

Do you think he will beat me up if I tell Google?

I visit this thread periodically in order to learn what state the sister site is in and how soon it will be safe again. That is strictly a matter of information, personalities and feuds from the past are not relevant.

I may have some current information, actually. If the site is ww2f.com, then you should all know that I just got a redirect message when I clicked on it. I closed the browser immediately, and as far as I can tell whatever it was did not damage my system.

Actually, the first time I went there after the "all clear" was given I received a redirect as well. I closed the site and then returned and all was fine.
Likely something in your browser cache being called when you head for the site like an old page.

Clear your browser cache and try again.

It is still fine for me now.

    Wayne

    Thanks Wayne.

Like you, the redirect goes away after I close the site and try again. However, it comes back every time I clear the cookies and browsing history.

So far Malware Bytes, Trend Micro and Jet Clean and going in and clearing any remaining stuff by hand failes to eliminate the redirect on the first "clean" attempt.

A computer programer told me it is was probably something on the website that was reacting to my specific IP address. What do you think it might be? Am I not clearing something that needs to be cleared?

    Thanks Again.

    All Praise Ceiling Cat
