Hi everyone. Not been here before. Recently discovered my dad's dairy and found out he served with 12 Commando, SSRF, 6 Commando and then 2 SAS being captured on Speedwell. He describes a drop on Sicily in which Maj Appleyard was killed and many others dropped in the sea. I can find no reference to it anywhere?

Also (sorry) I can find no details of a raid by submarine on Pantelleria when his best fried was killed?

All help appreciated. Cheers. Diary Dad

Hi Diary Dad and welcome to WW2Talk.
Your Father's service sounds very interesting, would you be prepared to post some pages from the diary? I am sure members here would like to see it and we might be able to provide further information for you.

Hi Aixman, thanks for the stuff about Maj A. Dad went to the SSRF well before raid on SARK with his troop commander Philip H Pickney but 2 SAS raid on Pantelleria was very small recce party put ashore by HM submarine United. I have searched and can find no record of this raid but still trying. Cheers.

Hi Mike, yes its very interesting but still working my way through it and trying to piece stuff togehther. Its fascinating. He reocrds well the 12 Commando / SSRF stuff, incluidng the raid on SARK but the smaller 2 SAS stuff in the Med seems less well reported apart of course from Op Speedwell his last drop. Cheers.
