    Hi there to all...

Has anyone come across any files that have listings of the vehicles assigned to LSTs for Op GOLDFLAKE, the move of the Canadian Corps fm Italy to NWE ? They must have been made but I wonder where they ended up ?

Any help would be much, much appreciated...

Hey Ruddy, found One unit......sorry, this was info I found while researching a specific man.....but it shows you the information that could be available (depending on the unit your looking for). This is the 82nd Anti Tank Battery, RCA......but you can also see other units that their vehicle load was “sharing” on the ship such as the 44th Anti Tank Battery, RCA

Amongst almost 100 related files held by LAC are these three volumes which look promising:

STRENGTH RETURNS - OP "GOLDFLAKE" - Nominal rolls and summary of strength by unit with dates and ships, Op "Goldflake", 17 Feb/27 May 45. (3 Vols)

It would be worth enquiring whether or not these volumes were microfilmed, and if so, whether they are available on Héritage. If microfilmed but not yet available you can request their free digitisation.

The following are available on Héritage:

    1/ORG GDFK/1 Policy re organisation - G.D.F.K. [Operation Goldflake] 369 pages.
3/GDFK/1 Exercise - Gdfk [Goldflake]. 835 pages over three volumes.

TNA also hold a number of files that might throw some light but it will take a visit, or more likely, several, as the only downloadable ones are the Chiefs of Staff minutes which are unlikely to hold the level of detail that you require.

I forgot to mention, the information on the 82nd AT Battery is from their “War diaries”.....so individual units may have added the documents to their war diaries, and if you know the specific unit, we can check?
