At 1900 hours, the British Admiralty instructed its commander at Dover, Vice Admiral B.H. Ramsay, to begin evacuating members of the BEF from France. They hoped to save 45,000 over a period of two days. They did somewhat better than that. Here's to the brave men who made the operation such a success.
