Understandably, most historical research has been about the front line, but I am interested on the build up to D-Day. I have two books published on events in Britain, by Ken Wakefield: Operation Bolero - The Americans in Bristol and the West Country and Henry Buckton: Friendly Invasion - Memories of Operation Bolero.

These two books seem to be the only ones that focus on this subject, despite a search on abebooks, amazon and google. Neither book deals with the logistical difficulties for the build up, the reason different units were deliberately placed in particular areas, communication problems, consequences of enforced radio blackouts, shortages of training areas, the contribution of the British to name but a few.

Has anyone any suggestions on books or articles that might help cover some of these areas?

    Thanks all
