    Hello folks!

I am a newly minted poster here, and I am looking for advice of other posters here who are familiar with researching US gov't archives.

My grandfather was made mayor of his small town west of Frankfurt a/M by officers of the US Army after the capitulation of the Third Reich regime.

I am interested in whatever documentation may reside in Washington's archives with regard to cases like this.

Does anyone here have experience dealing with this kind of research? I'd be interested in your perspectives.

It would help you gave your grandfather's full name and which town it was.

There was a recent thread about mayors, so someone here might comment. As for US Archives you may get help shortly.

Always a bit careful when posting personal or family info on an open forum, but we'll see.

The village is named Albshausen, and the man's name was August Krauss.

If you're not happy with keeping your grandfather's details online, you can always edit that part out. The name of the town should be sufficient for now in locating any documents in any archives.

I would also be interested to know if such records for post-hostilities administration exist for Hessen (a few of my relatives were Bürgermeister - in a small town south of Frankfurt-am-Main).

I'm still making inquiries in various places in trying to reconstruct this little bit of history.

There are still folks alive that can help me. I know I should have begun this effort somewhat earlier, but I was busy with other things. Now I have more time.

I find the go'vt. sites kind of hard to navigate. I don't know if such archives have preserved the level of detail that I was hoping for.

Should anyone be familiar with the ways of dealing with DC or defense archives, the input would be much appreciated.
