What types of Commission were there during WW2 and what is the order of seniority. i.e Regular, Emergency, Reserve, War Substantive, etc, etc How were Homeguard Officers appointed - through the Territorial Army Associations? Did Lord Lieutenants have the authority to appoint Officers?
Unless you were a pre-war Regular, Regular commissions were suspended and officers recruited during the war were appointed to Regular Army Emergency Commissions, tenable for the "duration of emergency". "War Substantive" referred to an appointment to a rank - not a commission per se - which lasted for the duration of the war only, with no impact on your post-war seniority in rank . The Home Guard is beyond my expertise.
One more question How did (1930's) pre war Territorial Officers get their commission? - I assume not through the RMA Sandhurst
