Been wondering what it really reminds me of.

    Warhammer 40K.
Might there be a proud nerd from the selection committee smiling quietly to himself (And for the Emperor).

Unless the regiment had the distinction of capturing one (admittedly it doesn't feature on the cap badge).

Initial Reaction: it looks more American or Computer Game style than British. I'm not keen.
    Considered Response: as Initial Reaction.........

When I served in N Battery in the 1983-84 we officers wore eagle buttons a non issue regiment shirt and stone colour barrack dress trousers. Nothing apart from the RA cap badge identified me as serving in the British Army. I was asked on the All Arms Tactics Course. The eagle is not commonly associated with the British Army.

    Ranger Regiment!

I almost died laughing. The Queen's enemies must be quaking in their boots.

The CGS needs to read Mussolini and his Generals by John Gooch. That will explain to him that one needs aspiration to be under pinned by resources.

    Regards

Download the Future Soldier Guide to see what the 20 year plan is for the British Army. The front cover features a mascara wearing female carrying the Gympy.....need I say more.

    Yes, I think I do:-

I hope the 20 year plan the British Army has doesn't include an actual war........

    ....so I guess it's a 'no' then.......

Note: as stated by other chaps, the word 'Rangers' has been used in quite a number of British Army Regiments in the past with one of the best (WW2) known being 'The Nottinghamshire Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry' normally referred to as the 'Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry'. The SRY fought a very hard campaign starting off in Palestine, and followed by North Africa (el Alamein and all that), assaulting Gold Beach on D Day and finishing up in northern Germany. They still exist as a Squadron in, I think (someone will correct me if I'm wrong), 'The Mercian Regiment'. I'm pretty sure there will be much 'rolling of eyes' if any of them see this Ranger badge.

The Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry is part of the Royal Yeomanry, as A Squadron. When you talk about Rangers in the British Army, my first though is the Royal Irish Ranges which is later merged to the Royal Irish Regiment. I think that members, or at least privates, of the Royal Irish are still called Ranger.

During WW2 there were also "9th KRRC (the Rangers)"

Oh dear. You would have thought for this key photograph they could have avoided showing a GPMG with a blank firing barrel and a SA80 with a blank firing attachment. Perhaps a fitting metaphor for the state of the army?

If this badge/organisation was indeed partly a shiny/strange distraction from the other more serious 'hollowed out' implications of current UK defence spending/reorganisation.

    It's worked!

    Well-played, soshul meeja regiment.

While merging of 1st and 2nd Mercian was announced long ago, one more battalion disappeared quite silently. Seems like 3rd Royal Gurkhas is removed from orbat and its two companies are used as fill up for newly created Ranger battalions. F (Falkland) Company will served under 2nd Ranger while still not sure where will A (Coriano) Company end.

If we're into the realms of promotional fictions, I'd have signed up if I'd seen this a few years earlier.
