I'm busy researching (just started actually) family members who served in both World Wars and trying hard to remember all the tales told when I was a lad; thankfully I've got a good memory and there was a decent bit of aural history about my Mother's side of the family but less so my Dad's side. As I'm just embarking on this quest I'm pleased to find this Forum which could help with the WW2 stuff. I'm going to make lists of resources & websites to check before I spend any money on any subscriptions, although I'm quite happy to pay-up for 'official' info. Perhaps, Members may wish to suggest some tips or other useful sites I could eventually check-out.

I'm currently chasing the Army service of my paternal Uncle, Pte. Andrew Pringle. I started out with the only snippit being he was killed in WW2 although I'm getting conflicts on his date of death. I checked the obvious places on the web and found there was a memorial to him (and other lads from the village) hanging in the local Working Mens Club (West Allotment). The problem is that the memorial lists him as being in the R.S.R (Raiding Support Regiment) but I clearly need to find out his 'home regiment' to make a fuller search of his service (it may be Northumberland Fussiliers 'cos most guys from the village seemed to be in it) ... that's the next task so wish me luck.

The WW1 side of this exercise is is more complex due to the much larger numbers of family members involved ... and killed; maternal Grandmother lost 2 brothers AND her husband, paternal Grandmother lost one brother and then she lost Andrew above in WW2. I also know of a number of cousins killed.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago on ww2f.com and was advised by them to come here as their Forum is more US based and that here had a UK bias.
