I think at the moment the search is a bit limited only covering early War (but I could be wrong), but if you go to the browse collection its got drop downs of Squadrons etc then they give date ranges covering a larger span

What do they mean by ORBs ? There are millions of them ! Do they have the one for the Marine Craft Repair Unit , Alexandria for example ? Or just the ones already downloadable for free from Kew ?

Deacs Well i am from Cumbria.

The 1921 censuses are coming on Ancestry on the 7th January 2025, but and there is always a but with Ancestry are they going to be the transcribed results from Findmypast ?

Date revealed for 1921 census coming to Ancestry | Who Do You Think You Are Magazine

Although Ancestry would not confirm the origins of their transcription, access given to Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine to a beta version suggests that the company has licensed the transcription from Findmypast. This will be disappointing news to family historians hoping for a new transcription of the census. For the 1911 census Ancestry teamed up with TheGenealogist to create a new transcription. Initially Findmypast was criticised for the quality of its transcription of the 1921 census, but the company has since worked hard to correct errors submitted by users.

A very helpful member on the Medal Forum has posted that Ancestry has a 50% off deal on a 12-month membership at the moment, so Premium is £59.99 for the year and Worldwide membership is £89.99. The offer is valid until 12 January if anyone is interested.

One helpful tip I see on that forum is to switch off the automatic renewal option, which apparently makes it a bit easier to get a better renewal deal at the end of your year.

    New Years Discount

(I’ve also posted this in the research section)

Thanks for highlighting this Deacs, very much appreciated.

A search just by christian name, surname, and place of birth found the Coldstream (and his pals) I was looking for straight away. Excellent stuff :)

    Kind regards, keep searching, always,

    Jim.
