The Kukri - The Journal of the Brigade of Gurkhas Might anybody here possibly have (or have access to) any of these journals? I own a bound copy of Issues 4, 5, & 6, (dated 1952, 1953 & 1954, but each--of course--covering events of the previous year). I've just narrowly missed out on purchasing a copy of Issue 3 (1951), that and the previous two issues being those I'd most like to consult (with reference to Hong Kong & Malaya). If anybody is amenable, I can easily make copies of the issues I have as a quid pro quo. Or if they are gathering dust, I could possible force myself to prize open the lead wallet and make an offer on one. Thanks in advance.
I do know--and I had considered it--but, well, I don't like to whinge, but I emailed them five years ago to ask about something relating to war diaries, and they wrote back after a couple of weeks to say they had made a note of my enquiry and would get back to me. But they didn't. I left it a month or two and wrote again to remind them, and they said they'd certainly look into it and get back to me. But they never did. And the third email I sent went unanswered. So I gave up.
The British Library appears to have Volume 3. You might be able to buy a copy of the articles(s) you are interested in. http://explore.bl.uk/BLVU1:LSCOP-ALL:BLL01001096314 The Imperial War Museums appears to have copies from volume 1, catalogue reference LBY E. 5 / 184 THE KUKRI : THE JOURNAL OF THE BRIGADE OF GURKHAS Maureen
I did finally get around to contacting them, and while they were very quick to respond and friendly, the ultimate answer was no: they hold copies of the journals, but they are not able to scan or photograph them. There is apparently a longer-term redevelopment of the Gurkha Museum and a part of this includes a digitisation project, but prior to that the only way to access material held by them is via a (paid and booked) research visit.
Charley, It appears the National Army Museum holds several items, though minus exact number or date. See: Online Collection | National Army Museum, London I've not seen anyone advertise a copying service. Nor whether they would permit it. Plus No, 3 and may be more at The British Library. David, I fear the second is probably a non-starter (I used to have a readers' card there and they're 'regulation heavy'), but I will contact the National Army Museum and try my luck. Thank you.
