My Grandads Military Record - Royal Artillery

I've recently found my Grandads military records however, I am finding it difficult trying to work out what it all means. Can anyone help please?
His name: TERENCE LYNCH
Service nunber: 1103481

That is not his Service Record. It is a Royal Artillery Tracer Card, maintained by clerks on regimental / corps HQ in the UK and it's purpose was to enable checks on where gunners were.

Can you try to take another photo - the details are very feint on the first image.

His name and number have not appeared here before your post.

We always recommend applying for the subject's full service record (except the Scots Guards). Yes, it may take a year to arrive - either from the MoD or National Archives (TNA). It is not available online and is the definitive record. There is nothing you can do about the wait. The records were never intended to be read today.

Yes, your subject's record is held by TNA, but it is 'Closed' as their procedures require an official document recording his death (CWGC entry will do). In short, he served with the 55th Anti-Tank Regiment, part of the 49th Infantry Division (49th (West Riding) Infantry Division - Wikipedia), from November 1941 until December 1944, when he was wounded.



There is a page on the regiment here - 55th Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery - 70 Brigade - which includes transcripts of the war diaries from 1943 until August 1944.
