    Just finished this one:

    The fight raged for 82 days (April - June 1945), but OMG what a savage battle this was ... The Japanese had only two types of casualties, they were either killed or taken POW. About eight weeks in the campaign losses for the Japanese amounted to well over 50.000 men ... with 400 POWs, half of them severely wounded. The American shipping around the Island was under constant air attack, nearly 2.000 Kamikaze attacks were counted. The Japanese battleship Yamato, which had sailed from Japan to attack the American fleet, was intercepted and destroyed on April 7th, 1945 (it exploded after it had been hit by aerial attacks). The entire Japanese crew of 3,000 perished (picture below).

    I will be interested in reading your thoughts on the Alps book. I have it on preorder, but won't receive until later this month. The US is always a month behind UK published books.
