    This is fascinating stuff.

Regarding the brass buttons. Many soldiers still wore the 1920s pattern Service Dress in 1939/40 - I have a photo of my grandfather in France at this time and he is wearing that, not Battledress.

    Thank you.
Can you show this photo ?

    Hello Tom

Yes metal detector , bud I´m fair searcher , i never found dead soldier If I find one i report this on police !

Thinking out aloud here.Theres quite a few of the smaller plain buttons amongst that lot...Gas capes?...Ground sheets? Both were used to bury the dead (as well as Army Blankets)..there seems to be a couple of rings there also...how often do you remove a ring? Perhaps you may have been unknowingly digging the ground where bodies have been recovered from previously..morbid I know but worth considering:mellow:

That is possible; I was just reading a report about Arnhem where a 1944 field grave was unearthed. The bodies had been taken out in 1945/46 but the recent dig found all their kit; helmets, body armour, weapons, ammo etc. Perhaps that was a common practice?

There is indeed. Here's a taster from BBC1's Dig1940 which will be shown in September/October:

This was material unearthed by a French group who are licensed to work at Dunkirk.

I want to reitterate what Verrieres posted earlier.

I've spoken to an archeologist freind in the durham archeology department and we both agree that the ring finds posted here almost certaintly represent a grave site.

As has already been mentioned in this thread: it is possible that whatever bodies were there, were removed at a later data, but then you have to ask why the rings were left behind.

Assuming they were worn (and not part of a looters stash) a number of answers to this apparently exist, the most plausible being the presence of small animals in the area, or severe trauma before/after death.

Although it seems as you are already aware of the possibilites of war graves, I'd definitely keep an eye out in these areas mate.

Fascinating hobby Nachlader. I hope to get to that area next year, but I won't be searching, just looking.

What you write is plausibly the theme is grave , on the basis of the facts i can say the rings is not found with bone ,it is found near by the trench , the ground here is here very very hard , what was lost (equipments , death soldiers etc.) was very long time on the surface , the death soldiers was buries after the battle , the german wehrmacht make many british prisoners. The all my finds was no deeply maximum 10-20 inch .
