I'm looking for more information about location of a munitions factory. My nan worked in one during war when she went to live with her brother, Thomas maw and sister in-law from Camden area to Salisbury, Wiltshire. A place called New forest was mentioned. He was in the R.A.F so logically thinking they must of lived between a airfield and a factory. Anyone have any idea where this factory was?
The New Forest is nearer to Southampton than to Salisbury, though neither is in it! Ringwood is nearer still! Chris
There was a munitions factory at Holton Heath. The scenery is not dissimilar to that of the New Forest, but it's Dorset, not Hampshire or Wiltshire.
I'm just going by what family have told me since my nan passed away a while back. She was 16 when war broke out and I know she worked in the centre of London then In guessing she was evacuated to her brothers house possibly since she had younger siblings. Where any records kept for war effort employees?
There were a number of small munitions factories around Christchurch airfield which is the bottom end of the New Forest - Ringwood being near the centre - Christchurch airfield had a number of planes taking off to many targets in Europe - along with a few other airfields around the Tarrants - between Christchurch and Salisbury which are mentioned in the Market Garden Operation… Cheers

Could this be what became Pains Wessex. They are now based in Havant but were in Wiltshire in my seagoing days - when they made pyrotechnics and fireworks. They could well have been munitions manufacturers during the war. Roy
