Looking for help in regards to Uncles medals (he died in action1943).

His Service records state that they were issued 25 Feb 1980 .
He was single .no children and both parents deceased ,so what I want to know is ,is there any way of finding out who they were issued to.

    Cheers,
    Maureen.

    Hi Maureen,
If a serviceman is deceased, medals can still be issued on application to MOD by the Next of Kin - on a strict NOK basis. It's my understanding if there are no parents alive and never were any children therefore no surviving eldest grandchild, then application would have to be on behalf of ... eldest sibling of the serviceman, their eldest child... and so on. So you'd need to look at your family tree: a cousin by the eldest aunt or uncle or, an elder sibling of yours.

If you suspect, for instance, there was an error, then get in contact with MOD Medal Office. They might be reluctant to give out a name to you. They'd probably want to check any family tree info you can supply, should you believe they were incorrectly issued.
