Hi ...I was taking another look at dads records and came upon an entry that made no sense to me. The entry reads..Awarded 1939-1943 star......is there such an animal or was the person making the entry hoping for an early end to hostilities regards Vic.
Hi Originally was this, changed to 39-45 after war see - http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/11362685 http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/46781904 http://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/britishguide/hmso/campaign_stars_defence.htm regards robert
Hi Vic, Forum member dbf has put together a brilliant thread on all WW2 campaign medals, here: http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/51086-ww2-campaign-stars-medals-info-thread/?hl=%2B1939-43+%2Bmedal#entry598852 In some cases, the 1939-43 Star and I think Africa Star ribbons were awarded (but not the actual medal) to service personnel in November 1943. As Robert says above, the 1939-43 Star was changed to reflect the correct years after the war.
