The 29 Commando is the nearest that I can find re pervious use of artillery by RM in WW2. It gives a background as to how the Artillery was connected to them.
It is still possible to be part of the RA but pass the necessary Green Beret course to become attached to the RM Commandos. It was certainly the case in the Falklands War.
This is no doubt why your relative was wearing RA Uniform but serving with the RM who are of course not soldiers but Navy. However the Commandos were Army in WW2 so things get a little complicated.
If I am wrong then this is the place to find out with so many ex RM and Commandos in the ranks.

Thank you (your previous post about missing my deadline threw me a bit)

Marines have always been both soldiers and Navy - the latter defines the CoC rather than the function. There were commando units in all arms of service, my late uncle was Flt Sergeant in an RAF commando unit intended to go ashore and seize airfields in Malaya or the Japanese Home Islands. He had never any confusion about which arm of service he belonged to - later rising to Sqn Leader

As TD has said best to be patient and wait for Service Records. Benjamin in Pic 1 is definitely wearing spurs and riding breeches (you can see reinforcement on inside knees). Same buckles on spurs in #19. Service No. is for Royal Marines not RA.

Hi both - an update after receiving service records
I now know that he was in the RA (Territorial Army) 1932-1940 (suggests that the photos were of his time with RA, not whilst a Marine).

A letter states that his Conduct Sheet and A.F.B. 103 (no idea what that is) were lost as a result of enemy action.

    Service dates show
    RMRD Exmouth 19.6.40 - 30.7.40
    HBL MNBDO Base Depot 31.7.40 - 8.10.41 (Crete 10.3.41 - 31.5.41) (DCM awarded for action on 21.5.41)
Plymouth Division 9.10.41 - 11.11.41 (date of Discharge)

Undated entry: "Invalided from med station. Taking passage earliest opportunity"

    Mearnskirk Hospital 9.9.41
From HMHS Almanzora to RNH Aberdeen 17.9.41

Following his discharge, 'BPSRM' (Below Physical Standard fro Royal Marines) he received £10 - 7s - 4d

Thanks for your help and comments

Just to complete this circle and to say thank you to everyone who helped, I was able to put together a display case and a bound history of Marine B.V. Jones' military service, travel and awards. The forum is an excellent resource. Thank you all.
    And the display case...
