Ive been trying, and failing, to find the original burial location of one of my locals Ive searched for Le Val Picharc.......doesnt exist Ive searched for France Sheet 7F/5.........cant find it He is now buried in Banneville-le-Campagne War Cemetery, but as his and his fellow soldiers graves were concentrated in 1946, I would presume that because of the proximity of other major War Cemeteries in the vicinity, he would have been originally buried fairly close by or he would have been concentrated into another War Cemetery, unless Banneville was used specifically for concentrations from across Normandy after the War. Who knows? Certainly not me. Help please!
It certainly seems so. Since posting I found that he was killed in the Battle of Berjou, just south of Le Val Pichard. If he was originally buried there, then Banneville must have been the go-to Cemetery for concentrations
Here’s a link to France 1:50,000 GSGS 4250, Sheet 7F/5 Flers from the British Library. Unfortunately due to the demise of Adobe Flash Player the zoomable view is no longer available. So Dezoomify won’t work either! From University of Texas, Austin here is part of the 1:100,000 map covering the same area.
Also have a look at these posts that relate to the SRY on that date, also include a map showing Le Val Pichard and war diary for 16th: 316773 Acting Lance Serjeant Leslie Cribben MM, Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry in Normandy.Berjou 16-8-44
At last managed to find a link on the British Library site of the 1:50,000 Sheet 7F/5 which is zoomable. Dezoomify also works if you want to download the map. France 1:50,000 , Series GSGS 4250, Falaise Ignore the heading of “Falaise”, I did send an e-mail to them several years ago about some incorrect headings but they still remain.
Just a note to say the IGN 'Air View' Map of France is far superior to the Google Maps version Remonter le temps Fiddle about with the icons down the right to see how much better.
