Hello everybody, I am trying to find a photo of Lt.Col. Dick Stevens who was the CO of the 12th Battalion Devonshire Regiment at the time of the Normandy campaign. There's nothing on line about him only a few of Lt.Col.Paul Gleadell who took over command from him. I am not able to get to the Keep museum at the moment. Would anybody have a pic of him.
Hi reddevon. I've had a quick look but haven't found any primary sources for a photograph of your man yet but there are a couple of online sources that I can see. Firstly, the website www.unithistories.com has him listed under officers serving with the 1st British Airborne Division at Arnhem. There is a grainy photograph of him (no source provided) and full details of his army career which shows his move from the 12th Devons after Normandy to his position as GSO1 liaison to the Polish Airborne during Market Garden. Subsequently, he is shown as serving in the Royal Fusilers in Korea and this leads to another website www.fusiliermuseumlondon.org which has an online article entitled The 1st Battalion Royal Fusiliers. An account of their part in the KOREAN WAR 1952-1953 ; Their commanding officer was Lt.Col. George Richard "Dick" Stevens and there are two photographs of him shown in Korea. Hope that helps for starters but I will keep digging to try and come up with a better picture of him All the best Dave
