    hi i wonder if anyone can help i am tracing my family history and came across some of my grandfathers papers in particular his soldiers service book it is very faded in parts but i believe it says he was a SGT in the civil defence force royal armoured corps in Alexandria Egypt also known as the Alexandria battalion under campaigns it has LRDG and medals were the African star and the dcm medal his previous service was in the royal air force
    can you tell me where i can find information and records in the UK for soldiers in the lrdg
    his name was Sydney muscat(moscat) he was born in Egypt as was his father they were British subjects his discharge date was Oct 1942

    thanks for our help can you tell me where i would find his military records would they be held in the UK as he was born in Egypt also on his service book it states his cause of discharge but only shows a paragraph and a number is there anywhere i can find out what this paragraph relates to and one last thing on rank on discharge it has L/U/SGT anyone know what this means

    At that time, with British parentage, your grandfather would have been considered as British.

    For information on getting his service records, have a look at:

    Service records

    His service number should be in his service book.

    As to L/U/SGT, I'm stumped but I'm sure someone here will be able to help.
