    Hi

Can anyone tell me when the Loyals Depot left Fulwood Barracks, Preston?

I know the South Lancs moved out to Formby prior to June 1941, so the ATS could move in.

Did the Loyals move out with them?

    Pete,
On the outbreak of World War II the Depot of the East Lancashire Regiment moved out to form an Infantry Training Centre at Squire’s Gate Camp, Blackpool, while the Loyals remained as an Infantry Training Centre at Fulwood until 1942. Then, until 1946, the Barracks was occupied by many units, particularly RA, RE and RASC, and a small Loyals cadre.

    FULWOOD BARRACKS

I lived in Fulwood and was privileged to attend many functions in the Sgt's Mess as my Uncles Guest.

Also, the South Lancs depot at Formby - was this the Kings Liverpool barracks?

Tom, thanks, thats from the qlr webpage....I'm not sure its quite right though - the ATS seemed to take over the barracks in June, wondered if the army also moved the Loyals out to prevent cross-pollination!!

    Pete,
I believe that it is pretty much just Medics there at present.

My Grandfather apparently served in the Loyal Regiment (North Lancs) in WW1.

Still researching with my sister at the moment.

Tom - I picked up a Dec 1925 copy of 'The Lancashire Lad', the Loyals regimental magazine recently - for the China interest, as they were posted there (Tientsin) are at that time - but it seems to have quite a lot of post-WW1 veterans stuff in it too - if you can let me have your grandfather's name (PM if you wish), I can check and see if there is any mention of him :)

    Cheers
