For my book, about one unit's campaign from Normandy to the Baltic (those who know me will know which unit I mean), I am looking for a good source (book) on the general and chronological development of the campaign in NWE (Commonwealth and American). Although my book, basically, will be from a worm's eye perspective, I do also briefly want to give some idea of what else is going on, in the introduction to each chapter. Any suggestions?
I'd use the British and US Official Histories Free online British Victory in the West Vol1 (Normandy) Vol 2 The Defeat of Germany US The War Against Germany (mostly pictures) Browse titles Here and on Hyperwar Cross Channel Attack Break of and Pursuit The Lorraine Campaign The Siegfried Line Campaign The Battle of the Bulge The Last Offensive
Actually looking for (preferably) one manageable book, in which the main aspects of the NWE campaign are neatly described, date by date. Hope this doesn't come across as being lazy. I just want to spend any time available for doing research, on the particular unit I'm focusing on.
There is the Gale and Polden A Short Story of 21 Army Group. It's early - 1949 - but concise. Can't recall how mappy it is.
