Looking for my Grandfather David Meredith Jones (1403828)Lancaster he flew in

Hi I'm trying to find out what squadron my grandfather was in. and if possible any information on his lancaster as I want to build a model in his tribute. All I have is his service number and name. I have had some great success on here regarding my great uncle who flew a short Sunderland.

 

I would suggest you start with his service records from the MOD - Request records of deceased service personnel
I think they will tell you what Sdqns he was with and when, so you may be able to deduce something further from those and by obtaining Sqdn records (ORB's I think they are called) from TNA

Good advice, and you should be able to get his Service records just by giving them the information you have posted here.
What else do you know of him, Born when and where, so we can work out his age, why you know he flew Lancasters, medals, photos, letters or other memorabilia or family knowledge.
For all we wn you know, perhaps another relative has already tried or obtained sufficient details for you to share!

It's a brutal fact that many aircrew never survived, so it's possible he didn't participate until close to the end of the War, so high was the attrition rate.
That's not to take anything away from his memory, in fact it's possible he did continue even knowing the odds were stacked against him.
It's one thing to face things NOT knowing the outcome, but a different level of courage to still go on knowing the odds.

He wasn't taken PoW as far as "Footprints on the Sands of Time" shows.

There was a David Meredith Jones born in 1903 in Carmarthen, but that would make him rather old for flight crew...
A David John Meredith Jones was baptised in 1908 in Llandebie, Carmarthenshire (would that be the same child, 5 years before baptism?

The 1939 Register is unfortunately packed with David M Jones's, so some help from you might enable us to help you more!

EDIT TO ADD: There is a Family Tree showing born 25 April 1920, plenty of brothers and sisters, father Francis Richard, mother Annie Mary Davies, she died a month before David M, same address......

 

he had 3 sons graham ian and Micheal ( my father ) I know his wife my nan passed away when my father was eight. My father Micheal was born February 11th 1945 or 6 ? That's all I really have to go on
