I wonder if anyone have any information in their books regarding a Polish Colonel call Jan Podola. I believe he fought with the 2nd Polish Tank Brigade in Africa and Italy after fighting in Poland in 1939. Here's a photograph of his uniform-Can anyone identify his medals. I believe there is 43 ! Cheers for any help Andy
Andy, in the first row, from left to right, are Silver Cross of Virtutu Militari Order and Cross of Valour. Still searching for others
Cheers Sol. The Order Virtuti Militari (Latin for "To Military Valour") is Poland's highest military decoration for courage in the face of the enemy. I didn't think they'd start that high ! I'd love to know what he got them for? I assume he must get a mention in a book or two but can't find anything on him on the web.
2nd row: Order of Polonia Restituta (?) and Freedom and Independence Cross and Medal 3rd row: Monte Cassino Cross, National Treasure Medal and Battle of Monte Cassino 25th Anniversary Commemorative Medal Here you can find some other Polish medal ribbons, but not all from your picture. Maybe some of them are from other countries.
Drew - Probably for any action at Monte Cassino - where they went through hell and ALL of them should have had the highest honours..... Rows four and five are the British - 1939/45 - Africa Star - Italy Star - Defence and Victory Medals.... Cheers
