    Hello

I have been trying to find a Thomas Hornby (my partners Grandad)

we know very little other than he was in the REME and served during WW2

He was from Bolton, born in 1917, died in 1972 in Leigh

Really dont know anything else military wise, his father was Henry Hornby who served in WW1 (we have a photo of him in uniform)

    Thanks

    Steve

the only way is to apply for his service records
A long wait now due to the pandemic £30 plus death cert required
you do not require his service number date of birth will do

Get a copy of military service records

    Deaths Sep 1972
    Hornby Thomas 9my1917 Leigh 10d 133

    regards

    Hi Clive

Many thanks, I thought I may have been able to at least get an enlistment or soldier number,

Will a copy death cert be ok, or would it have to be original, as not sure we have the original but can order a copy from GRO

If you read the forms they ask for Service number OR date of birth, and normally the death certificate provides birth date as well
