    hi.
basicaly i'm trying to learn more about the areas the L.Fs fought in (in france post d-day) and the division my grandad may have been in. my grandad says he arrived around 4 weeks after d-day, fought in the areas around caen, and in the country-side around eindhoven where he was posted to stop the germans advancing from the battle of the bulge and entering the into town. unfortunatly he was discharged with shell-shock.

he mentions villers-bocage, but i thought thats where the canadians were? another area he mentioned was la boissière.

anyone know anything about these lancashire fusiliers?

    Welcome to the forum.

You are going to need his service record... There are a couple of threads with the details of how to apply but can't find them at the moment.

The good news is that there was only one battalion of LF in Normandy: 2/5 Bn in 59 (Staffordshire Div). This is the 59 Div website which should give you a good overview.

The bad news is that the div was broken up in August 1944 to reinforce to other units:
A Coy (company) went to 7 Royal Welch Fusiliers in 53 Div
B Coy to 2 Gordon Highlanders in 15 Div
C Coy to 2 Glasgow Highlanders in 15 Div
D Coy to 1 East Lancashires in 15 Div
Odds and sods may also have gone to other units. His destination (and by implication his original company, maybe) should be in his service record.

found out he was sent to the gordon highlanders but, in his words, when he was on the way to the regiment he went "doo-laly" and sent back home.
