    Hi Guys,
would anyone know where the Motor Depot of the King's Royal Rifles was located in 1940? My gt-uncle was called up and posted there in January 1940 but his service record does not show the location. I'm trying to track his movements through the war. Any information most welcome.

Presumably 2nd KRRC as the 1st went from the Far East to the Middle East. They seem to have spent the first part of 1940 around Blandford Camp, but wasn't Winchester the Regimental Depot ?

I know 1st Motor Training Battalion KRRC was at Chiseldon camp.
Wonder if that is what is being referred to ?

My uncle was called up in January 1940. His service records say he was 'embodied' into the KRRC and posted to 'motor depot'. A few weeks later he was posted to the Motor Training Battalion (which I have discovered was at Chisledon near Swindon). he went on to serve with the 1st Rangers in Greece and later with 2nd KRRC. He was killed at Alamein in 1942. I have been trying to find out where he would have reported for his initial basic training. I'm guessing the 'motor depot' was different to the 'Motor Training Battalion'.

Don't exclude the possibility that the Motor Depot could also have been at Chisledon, and although posted to the Motor Training Battalion, this could have just meant a move across the camp & possibly the same barrack. Could the Motor Depot have been the vehicles he eventually trained on, and his few weeks there, are keeping him busy while awaiting a place on a training course ?

Many thanks Travers1940. Yes, that's a strong possibility.
