Hi all saw this. Search for family of executed WW2 Highland soldier - BBC News I have tried Kellor / Keilor etc, unable to find anything Anybody any ideas?
A thorough research and analysis of the Missing Persons Lists (WO361) and Army Casualties Lists (WO 417) perhaps.
I think the story has evolved over the years into something completely different from what actually happened. I suspect at best he was a POW. I certainly don't believe he was executed nor do I believe that is his grave, if it was it wouldn't be marked with just 1940.
Just posting what is shown on a family tree in which some of the details seem to coincide - make your own mind up Leonard Keillor Scott –1940 BIRTH Unknown DEATH JUL 1940 • Normandy, France Father: James Keillor Scott Mother: Maria Joseph Mahieu Military 1939 51st Highland Division- serving in St Valery en Caux in Normandy Death Jul 1940 • Normandy, France Hidden by a french family, but Germans captured him within weeks. Taken to cemetery, where he dug his own grave and was executed. If this is true then I would expect the French to know where he is buried TD

They do know. The grave is tended daily by one family who have passed this story from father to son. I was able to visit St Valery two weeks ago and was taken straight to one particular grave by the family. They are very clear about which one it is.
Is the information on his death given above, taken from the family tree (can’t access it at the moment) or is that a reprise of what we know (allegedly) taken from the Poppy Scotland appeal? Thanks very much
