    John William Nelson Johnson
    Private 14581494
    B Company - 10 Platoon
    1st Battalion (43rd)

An aquaintance would like information about the circumstances of JWN Johnson's death, during Operation Greenline 15-17 July 1944. Help with information and sources would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Whilst it may not mention him by name the units war diary at the National Archives will give you a very good idea on what was happening on the day of his death.

WO 171/1356 1 Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry 1944 Jan.- Dec.

There may also be some detailed info in the regiments missing men file

WO 361/523 North West Europe: 1st and 2nd Battalions, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry; missing personnel

If you can't get to the archives and would like a copy of either click the bold red link in my signature for more details.
