    Hi, New to this so please excuse any errors looking for information about my uncle E McAllaster DLI time period 1940 There was a ship wreck SS Shuntlen sunk 23 DEC 1941a prison ship with 800 to 1000 Italian and German prisoners on board plus 40 soldiers from the DLI I believe that my uncle was one of the 40 on board CWWG said he died 23 Dec 1941 buried at Halfaya sollum war cemetery my research if wright he and 6 other DLI died same date also same cemetery ? can any one shed light on this please

    Hi, This is my uncle many thanks new information great all this will help me any one have war diaries for this period just to confirm other missing links in his record ronnie

    Hi, Just found an article on the newspaper archives stating that he was reported missing presumed drowned youngest of six sons two other sons serving in the arm one my dad France with BEF returned from Dunkirk then joined No 9 commando until the war ended I would be very grateful for a photo many thanks Ronnie

    There are also a couple of documents in WO361/133 Casualties at Sea in The Middle East. They are attached. There wasn't a list made of the German and Italian POWs lost on the ship and this caused the Italians to withhold cooperation on naming the Allied POW casualties on the Ariosto which was sunk in the Med with the lost of many Allied POWs.

    The Allied survivors of the Shuntien are named in these documents.
