John, I'm sure someone better informed will be along shortly but I'd think that your Dad had a wider entitlement than simply the War Medal. It depends on where exactly he served and with what sort of unit.

    https://www.gov.uk/medals-campaigns-descriptions-and-eligibility

I'd expect the '39-'45 Star and the Defence Medal if he was non-combatant in India or perhaps the Burma Star if he was in certain areas.

The British authorities had a strong desire not to issue too many different medals but one result of this is that some who had an 'easy' war picked up medals all over the place and others at the sharp end hardly any.

As far as I know, there is no copyright to infringe. Plenty have done it on here.

It might be worth posting the records in a thread under the 'Burma and India' sub-forum referring to 2nd Queens in the title to make sure that the right chaps notice it.

Hi Rich, have a look at this link, You will find that the regiment did a fair bit in the far east.

"Consequent upon the loss of Singapore in 1942, the 70th Division was moved to reinforce the Far East, initially the 2nd Battalion going to Ceylon and then to India, where in 1943 it became part of the Deep Penetration Forces (the Chindits) under General Wingate. The Battalion was divided into two columns, and with the rest of 16 Brigade marched under appalling conditions from the Ledo Road in the north to the centre of Burma using mule transport and re-supply by air. It finally took part in the operations in the Indaw area to disrupt the Japanese lines of communication. At the conclusion of these operations a long period to recover from the debilitating effects was required. After re-forming, the 2nd Battalion was training for the attack on Malaya (Operation Zipper), when the Japanese surrendered in August 1945"

No just add them to this thread , I'll edit the title.
We set up the 'service records' sub-forum so members can ask about the service records they have & need help with.
No need to use the ''Burma & India'' one unless you want to ask about what the unit got up to there.
Keep this thread for decyphering those records.
To upload images, click MORE REPLY OPTIONS then you'll see a box with a Paper Clip icon that says ATTACH FILES & CHOOSE FILES. Use that to get the images from your computer & add them to this thread.
Or you can make an album in the Gallery & add a link to it on here.

    Try resizing the scans.
If you havent got any image editing software on your computer there are some free online photo-resizers you can use.
If that still no good email them to the forum admin email address & one of us can add them to the thread for you.

2nd Queens were part of the 2nd Chindits Expidition in 1944. I would be surprised in the war medal is his only entitlement as he exceeds the requirement for the 39-45 star for his service in Ceylon as part of the anti invasion force.

    Hi John,

If he was in 2nd Queens in 16th British Infantry Brigade in 1944, he would have been in Chindit Column 21 or 22. Based on your information he would have been entitled to 1939-45 Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal and War Medal. This is very much the standard entitlement for the men involved.

    See attached.

Just for arguments sake, If he was left in India due to ill health, other duties, attached to another unit he wouldn't have taken part in the Chindit Expidition therefore no qualification to Burma Star, I am sure you are correct but we need to see the records.
