My father GARTH LORIMER was transfered from the Gordon Highlanders to the 13th Indian Infantary Brigade abt July 1941. He remained with them till he was repatriated in the winter of 1946/47.
I am looking for "any" information abt the 13th beween these dates or anything abt my father.
He passed way in 2000, I am the last remaining member of the family so I am unable to source family for any info, so would apreciate any help folk can give me
    Thanks
    Don

Hi Don and welcome to the forum. At the time when your father joined 13th Indian Brigade (July 1941) it was already in Burma, where it served under 1st Burma Division. I think that it was mostly based in the central Burma but once Japanese invaded it was moved south with the rest of the division. It took part in battles around Yenangyaung and Monywa. After retreat from Burma, the brigade was renamed 113rd Indian Brigade, now part of 39th (Light) Indian Division (former 1st Burma Division). During 1943 it's converted to training unit and served in that role until the end of war.

Don, you can try with brigade's war diaries in TNA. These are for brigade H.Q.

    WO 172/563 - 13 Indian Infantry Brigade: H.Q. - 1942 Apr.- May
    WO 172/618 - 113 Indian Infantry Brigade: H.Q. - 1942 June - Dec.
    WO 172/4446 - 113 Indian Infantry Brigade: H.Q. - 1944 Jan.- Apr.

I couldn't find for the rest of the war. In TNA you also have war diaries for the brigade signal and workshop sections and probably for all units which served under its command. Do you know more about his service with this brigade?

    Thanks for that sol.
I know very very little about my father and most of what I have is from memory as a young lad.
I remember a photo of him with some Gurkha's and he also took me to a war memorial nr a beach on west coast of Malaya. It was dedicated to soldiers he served with. He said that he and another mate were embarking from the docks when they were pulled out cause they were the most experienced trainers. He then said they were either killed or captured. I have tried to locate this memorial but no success to date. It certainly , ties him into the 13/113th whilst it was a training unit. I also have a plaque he gave me. It has a crown to the top with a infantry horn on a 3piecebow and sash. Between the bow and horn is 13. The background iscomprises of four stripes, green, red, green with a thin gold strip in the centre. Any ideas.
    cheers mate

Can you post picture of the placket? Probably the best for you would be to try to obtain his service record first.

Hi Don. Closest thing that could be is badge of 13th Frontier Force Rifles, which had same badge but with letters FFR under number 13. Unfortunately I don't know their regimental colours. I'll see if I could find anything.

    Sol,
Looking at badges, the Punjabi rifles who were I believe part of the 13 FFR had just the number in the centre like my fathers plaque. Do you think it possible he may of been with the punjabi regiments within the 13th FFR

Don, 13th Frontier Force wax mixed regiment which means that it recruited its soldiers from couple of races like Sikhs, Punjab Muslims and others. Regiment had number of battalions, not regiments, and while some battalions from other regiments had different cap badge then their parent regiment, I never find any mention of this practice for 13 FF Rifles. Maybe you can try to contact the Pakistan Army Museum (they have facebook page) or Indian Army Museum, maybe they can give you same clue about that crest.
