Hello, I've pasted an e mail I received from a veteran friend of ours, regarding the unveiling of a Memorial in Mauny, Normandy. If anyone on here can help with contacting any family of the soldiers mentioned, that would be brilliant, Cheers, Nigel THE 51st HIGHLAND DIVISION VETERANS ASSOCIATIONDr.T.J.Renouf14 Windsor Gardens Musselburgh EH21 7LP E-mail: beejaycory@gmail.com 22 April 2013 A TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN I am trying to contact the families six Black Watch comrades listed below who were killed on 28th/29th August 1944 in Normandy serving with the 5th Black Watch in the 51st Highland Division. I would like the families to know that a monument to honour the names of their wartime relatives killed on that date is being unveiled in Mauny on 1st June 2013, the village near the river Seine where they gave their lives for the Freedom we enjoy today. The tragedy of losing a loved one in the War brought untold grief to the families, all the harder to bear when the fate of their loved one was unknown and there was no formal recognition of their sacrifice. It is a great consolation to the families of our Black Watch comrades to know that after all these years their names are to be honoured. Trying to contact families after 70 years when little is known of their whereabouts is a mission impossible without the help of others. I am appealing to all possible sources – Town Halls, Veterans organisations, etc. – that will help me to contact these families by getting this appeal reported several times in all local newspapers. My fear is that these families never get to know that their heroic war casualty has been paid the tribute he deserves by strangers who realise the debt that they owe him. I was wounded on the same day as my six comrades were killed and I have been invited by the Maire of Mauny to unveil the monument, but the ceremony would be greatly enriched if any of the families could attend the unveiling. To date I have made contact with two families who were overjoyed to hear about the memorial and who have arranged for grandchildren to attend the ceremony. If any of the families of my Fallen Comrades get to know about this tribute, please get in touch with me and I will provide details of the ceremony that will take place on June Please let me know if you cannot help or if you can suggest any other approach. Dr. Tom Renouf MM Major Donald Mirrielees MC, 67799, aged 29 c/o Col.
