Can anyone help please? I'm trying to find some information about HQ110 L of C area Poona. I would specifically like to know what a Private from the York and Lancaster regiment who was attached to it in early 1945 might have been doing. Thank you.
Back to my Uncle Bill again a signaller in the GSC attached to 1st Wilts then 14th Army Signals Burma. Signal Courses at Army Signals School Poona. Courses in Signals and Infantry Training. Junior Acting Instructor Signals. A bit short and sweet but Hope this helps. He was training Indian soldiers in Signals ready for the invasion of Japan which of course never happened due to the A bombs.
Here is 110th Line of Communications Area, part of Southern Army, on November 13th, 1944. Its HQ was at Poona and it commanded four garrison battalions as well as other subunits not shown.
The 26/11th Sikh Regiment was assigned internal security duties in Poona. It also grew and tended vegetable gardens. The other battalions also performed internal security duties at vital points in the area.
Poona was a main base for the British Army in India before separation. Poona - FIBIwiki. British Indian Army - Wikipedia
