I, and my mother, have always known that my grandfather was shot during the war, have even seen the scar. There is an entry of an injury on his records on 8.3.1943. I've had a navy friend look at it and he seems to think it refers to a recreational injury. Nowhere else in the records can we see, so far, where it says wounded in action. Once the war was over and he remained in the army reserves, his TA form lists scars to his neck, arm, shoulder and thumb (which we know he had day surgery on his thumb in Sicily in 1943). I've added the record for anyone to look at and see what they think. I assume there is no way of getting hold of his army medical records?
Hi, It looks like an accidental injury- probably sport - not caused by enemy action. There is information about medical records posted by others - myself included - towards the end of the other topic you started about your grandfather...... I've just found another entry on hospital admissions in 1944. I have attached it. Could this be when he was shot??
Hi Again, Attached topic explains X list abbrevations. Xii is a medical evacuation but it does not drill down to differentiate between injury/illness or wounds. Steve Y http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/15663-x-lists-service-records/
