Varied but around 2-3 weeks. If you know the name of the ship you can look online on the NA website 'Discovery' and search BT 389 to see if there is a Merchant Shipping Movement Card (currently free to download).

As Tim says about 2-3 weeks, faster than most outward journeys due to the Suez Canal and Mediterranean being free from enemy activity.

Thanks Tim that is really useful to know. My grandad was in RE and embarked from Bombay 5th March 1946 and disembarked in UK 25th March 1946 so as you say 2-3 weeks. Not sure what ship he was on though for that journey !
I only received his records on Saturday so a few areas to continue the investigation on including as he was a barge engineer if I can get further details of what he did in the No 1 Port ICinstruction IWT Repair Depot in Marchwood for a number of months. That group helped transport and run the Mulberry B I believe. His skills were on the tugs/barges regarding engine rooms etc
