    Hi,

I've heard that there is a picture of Hitler going to his car which is parked in Kauwekijnstraat ( next door to the Menin Gate ) after visiting the memorial in 1940.

Has anyone got a copy the can post?

    Cheers

    Soren

    Cheers Owen,

Don't forget I have been exterminated from the forum, so if someone would be so kind as to post an image of Hitler In Kauwekinstraat I'd be most pleased!

No we don't. We just don't suffer fools gladly, so I'm OK here!:D

The Hitler & Car photos I have are taken near Aubers and/or Vimy, but there are a few Ypres shots (one of them is of Uncle Adi walking back to the car at the Menin Gate, but the car is out of shot - shall I flood the thread with piccies?:D)

Yes please, it's the street where I live (I thought that was a song?)

Yes it is a song from the musical "my Fair Lady"

YouTube - Vic Damone - On The Street Where You Live

    I have often walked down this street before;
But the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before.
All at once am I Several stories high.
Knowing I'm on the street where you live.
Are there lilac trees in the heart of town?
Can you hear a lark in any other part of town?
Does enchantment pour Out of ev'ry door?
No, it's just on the street where you live!
    And oh! The towering feeling
Just to know somehow you are near.
    The overpowering feeling
That any second you may suddenly appear!
People stop and stare. They don't bother me.
For there's no where else on earth that I would rather be.
Let the time go by, I won't care if I
Can be here on the street where you live.

Didn't realise that it was impossible to access images on there (even if they're your own!) if you can't log in. I know now!

Dave are they from ATB issue 117?
HITLER ON THE WESTERN FRONT - Jean Paul Pallud retraces Hitler's visits to France and Belgium in 1940 including the Führer's personal tour of his First World War battlefield.

The first "Menin Gate" photo shows them turning into it, but I've not seen a specific shot of them actually getting nearer the car. However, there is moving footage of this same scene, but it stops as soon as they turn the corner.

    Fascinating stuff.
Anyone know exactly what kind of security detatchment travelled with Adolf when out and about in the occupied zones? Looks very substantial in these pics.

I know that a detachment of the Leibstandarte always travelled with Der Fuehrer as his personal bodyguard. These men were on rotation from the Front so had battle experience. Otto Guensche, one of Hitler's Valets/Aide de camp/Servants was rotated at least once to active duty and the same happened Traudl Junge's husband (he was killed in Normandy).

    Kauwekijnstraat?

    Soren.

You may be able to help me a little here...are there any houses that "back onto" the moat/ramparts in your street (or are the first ones on Lange Tourhoutstraat)?

If there aren't any, is there any evidence of there ever having been some there? (They wouild have had cellars).

    cheers.
