Help with translation

    I need an answer here...I have a German abbrevation which is probably an organizational one, but still.....
    What does the term "Abt" mean? My best guess is either Battalion or regiment, but...:confused:

    No doubt this is the abbreviation for "Abteilung", which means "department" or "division".

    In Army organisation terms Abteilung is synonomous with Battalion.

    Abteilen: singular : divide,partition, division,department,secton,compartment,ward.unit
    Abteilung plur
