I have recently obtained my Uncles Service record and would be very grateful for some help in interpreting it. The following is a summary of the Units and Batteries that he was part off. I am particularly interested in how long he was with 300 Battery from 22/11/1941. The record states on the 22/11/1941 that he was interposted to 300 Battery. Do I assume that he stayed with 300 battery until 21/04/1943 or would he have returned to 227 battery? From To Unit Battery 24/08/1936 27/11/1938 5th East Surrey Regiment 28/11/1938 15/07/1940 57th (East Surrey) Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery 227 15/07/1940 15/05/1941 57th (East Surrey) Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery 225 30/07/1941 57th (East Surrey) Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery 227 22/11/1941 ???? 57th (East Surrey) Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery 300 21/04/1943 31/12/1943 57th (East Surrey) Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery 300 09/01/1944 21/09/1945 64th Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery ?? 21/09/1945 03/02/1946 149th Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery ?? Also, is there any reason why the Battery is not mentioned for the 64th and 149th Anti Tank Regiments? The record also states that he was with the BEF between the 02/04/1940 and 13/06/1940 although the war diaries state that he returned round about the 31/05/1940. It was suggested when I raised this in the Forum under the 1940 section that the 13 June date may have been when he re-joined his unit in the UK and started drawing pay. Has anyone else come across this or is it possible that he was left behind and managed to get back to the UK later? Any other insights would be gratefully received. Simon
Simon. If he was in 64 Anti-Tank Regt RA from 9 Jan 44 then he would have been at Monte Cassino for the Third and Fourth Battles as part of 78 British Infantry Division. Regards FdeP
