Hi, Even after many years of trying I still find LG difficult to search - and get a result - while others are more successful Don’t be too despondent if you are unsuccessful as you still have the service record route to fall back on. Steve
AIR78 links D L Wynd to the service number hand annotated on the box. AIR78 has a different number for A Wynd London Gazette entry visually corresponds to OCR data and has A Wynd. Page 50 | Issue 35841, 29 December 1942 | London Gazette | The Gazette New Years Honours so probably MiD for meritorious conduct rather than for an action on a specific event. On balance of probabilities Gazette entry initials is incorrect. RAF Service Record does not normally have post war WWII medal issue notations - these were a separate card. Ross
Thankyou so much Ross RAFCommands Sorry for my stupidity!! So this is the correct service number on the box for Donald Wynd and he was indeed mentioned in despaches. Many thanks again and appreciate all your kind help
Must change that - stupid I'm not reacting to is elsewhere! AIR78 is the index card that RAF used for names 1918 to mid 70s and so was kept more upto date than others - his wife's card has nee annotation and second card for single name annotated with maiden. So this is considered a good link to names/service numbers for RAF OR Name Range: Wright, Herman - Yates, Phyllis.
