    Hi.
As you know, all Recce regiments were transferred to R.A.C. in Jan '44.
Has anyone searched the R.A.C. Bovington Museum Archives (via their paid search service) for Recce info and if so, what did you find and how useful has it been in furthering your research?

I've already got my Dad's Service Record (with 52nd Recce Regmt) plus some photos and books (Mountain & Flood, Time Served and The Fighting 52nd) so am wondering what else, if anything, is available at Bovington.

    Thanks

    Jim

The direct answer is no - I haven't used their research services but I guess there is no problem with sending off the online form and asking what, if anything, they hold on 52 Recce.

I believe that I am correct in saying that when the 56 Recce Comrades Association closed down their paperwork and documents were passed to Bovington, can't comment on 52nd, but no harm in asking.

Don't forget that the diaries are on this site courtesy of Recce_Mitch also the Reconnaissance Journals:

Quite a few books have been printed i.e.

    Tony56,
Many thanks for that suggestion and the other book recommendations too. I've had a look at some of the diaries (thanks Recce_Mitch) but not the journals - so that's now on my list too.

    Best regards

Last year while visiting Dorset I contacted the Bovington Tank Museum to see if I could look at some documents relating to my research on my father's WW2 Royal Tank Regiment Service. I received the following reply:

"Thank you for getting in touch with us.
I have booked you in for a visit on Monday 17th June when we open at 10am.
The charge for the archive visit is £15 per half day session. The sessions run from 10am to 1pm and 1:30pm to 4:30pm.
We also offer a camera licence for £10 that permits you to photographs of documents for personal reference at a later date. This can be organised on the day if you decide that it is something you would benefit from.
On the day, if you know where the archive is, head over when you arrive. If not, ask at the front reception of the Museum and they will give you directions to the archive.
If you have any further questions, please let me know.
    Kind regards,

I requested a list of specific documents including a photo album, Regimental Magazines and published books. I was provided with all of what I requested and in addition, a box with numerous documents etc relating to the Regiment he served with.

I spent a full day in a quiet well-lit room and went through all the documents.

My overall experience was excellent and the staff were very helpful and courteous. I would highly recommend you contact them with the information you require and they will be most willing to help you.

    Cheers,
    Jim
