I'm trying to discover a bit more about my father's service in WW2. I have his service book but not much else. I am hoping that by posting the details I do have, someone out there might be able to point me in the right direction. The details are as follows :- Reginald Wallbank Army number 1594859, he enlisted on 31 August 1940 at Blackburn ( the home address was in Burnley ). The book is stamped with Royal Artillery H.A.A. Other than some entries for leave there is not much else in the book. I have two further pieces of infomation - one is a piece of paper granting him privilege leave in 1943 from the Palace Barracks in Holywood. On this he is described as BDR ( Bombadier ? ). The other is a small form A.F.W3084 which gives his name number and rank. His rank is shown as GNR ( Gunner ? ). The Unit is shown as 527/152. Any information about his unit and their whereabouts during the war will be gratefully received.
Shiers So scan what you have - but your best bet would be to get his service records from Glasgow - that has verse and chapter - and takes a long time to get hold of - so we might be able to help from his release book Cheers
Hello - sounds like he may have been in a Heavy Ant-Aircraft regiment. As Tom suggests the best way forward is to apply for a copy of his records. Cheers Andy
Hi As the other guys say apply for his service records, they will tell you more. Gnr = Gunner and Bdr = Bombardier so you are right. Haa = Heavy Anti-Aircraft 152 was his regiment - RA 1939-45 152 HAA Rgt 527 was the battery he was in. The guns he used were these - RA 1939-45 3.7 inch AA gun or larger To apply for his records - ask for the full records, not a summary- Ministry of Defence | Contact us | Service Records Enquiries regards Robert
Tom, Andy ( Drew5233 ) and Robert ( Bofors ), Thank you all for your help and advice and in particular the link to the MOD. I will hopefully have sometime this weekend to follow this up. Regards
I am having troubles trying to isolate the files for my Dad's regiment for the periods may-june 1940 and june-july 1942. Could anyone give me a hand? Thanks John
Hello Shiers My aunt was in this same unit 527/152 I have her service record, some of the handwriting is difficult to read. Did you apply to MOD and receive your father's records? Maybe we can compare notes.
