This website will do the conversion but you have to know/guess the letter code. It's not too hard because you probably have a general idea of where the regiment is. I would suppose the grid in question is somewhere in the "Nord de Guerre" area.

    The "Coordinates Translator"
The grids used on the European Theatre of Operations

The alternative would be if the war diary notes the map sheet involved, you could download a big image of the map from one of a number of university websites.

What area / town are you interested in, I presume that you have a rough idea of the location, is it around Dunkerque?

As Chris states in his post you need to have an idea of the place in question, use the links supplied and you should be able to find what you are looking for. You will see that the various zones are divided into squares, each distinguished by two letters, the square around Dunkerque is VH in the Nord de Guerre zone. If you put those details into the translator you will find this location:-

A map can be seen here:-

If this is not the place that you are looking for, use other prefix letters.

Once you have the relevant prefix letters you can also put the resulting Lattitude and Longitude result onto Google Earth and see the actual land area.
