Hello all, Hoping that you will be able to help out a friend of mine whose father died recently. They would like to know about his army service - I have advised them to apply to Glasgow for his service record but thought I would post some details that are already known to the family in case any one can advise on the following: 1. What the QRR were doing in India. Where they were etc 2. What medals forum members, at first glance, think that he would be entitled to. Details are as follow: Private William Albert ROBBENS D.O.B. 27.03.1926 Service number 14453708 Queens Royal Regiment Called up/Joined 16.11.1944 6 weeks @ Mary Hill Barracks Glasgow 10 weeks @ Invicta Maidstone 5 weeks @ Shorncliffe Kent 10 weeks embarkation leave Travel Waterloo to Southampton embarked troop ship 'Capetown Castle' for passage to India some time in 1945 Once in India he spent most of his time in hospital with a blood disorder He left the army in 1948. Cheers for any help, Skip
Hi, If he didn't enter a "war zone" after his arrival in India then his only entitlement would be the War Medal. Regards Steve
Skip His number would indicate he joined up in the middle of 1943 as opposed to 11-'44-making him 17.5 - since the war ended in May 45 -it's doubtful he was awarded any medals unless he went through to Burma... Cheers
Interesting Tom - thanks very much. The detail came from his wife and is reliant on her memory. No doubt the service record will reveal all. Still very interested if anyone knows the movements/objectives of the QRR at this time. Cheers Skip
