My husband’s uncle John Edward Perry born 1924 Birmingham has a fine row of medals. Unfortunately we dnt know who he served with nor can identify some of the medals. The general war medal and star can be seen can anyone help with the others please from a blurred photo? Thank you Ali
Please can someone help me identify the medals below other than the general war medals? The photo is as clear as I can get. William Ernest Perry born 1924 Birmingham. I cannot identify the cloth badge either but thought someone with a deal of knowledge may just be able to help! Thank you apologies if thread appears twice I thought I had deleted it without posting!
I would hazard a guess that the blazer badge is that for RN Submariners and that second Star from left is the Atlantic Star. Tim
Yes that was certainly a thought I had about the blazer badge but was far from sure. I will have a look at ancestry again as there were a couple of possible candidates. Thank you
Apply for his service records they should list what medals he was awarded - Request records of deceased service personnel
Apologies I have also been working on his father a first war Coldstream Guard called John Thomas Perry. We are definitely looking at William Edward Perry born 1924. Today I have listed over 25 family members who served either in ww1 or 2 and got confused myself with some similar names!
I have quite a few records to send for from ww2 which is costly so will get round to it as soon as I can. Many thanks
Is it possible to merge threads and keep confusion at bay - an error on my part I didn’t realise it had actually posted
For the medals it's probably quicker to contact the Medal Office and it won't cost you. They will tell you what medals he was entitled to and when they were issued. Tim

The right hand unknown medal might be this unofficial one. Submarine Service Medal | Commissioned by London Submariners (awardmedals.com) edit. or Malta George Cross Medal | 50th Anniversary Malta Medals (awardmedals.com) saw this & thought it similar. th (474×235) (bing.net)
Ok many thanks folks that is great. Sorry about the name I have been compiling names, ranks and from both wars so ended up somewhat confused when I put the wrong name! It is William E Perry as previously stated. I am told by my father the subs then were diesel. How William would be amazed by such a boat now. Without his record I won’t know which one he was on but I have made contact with the veterans website and also for the medal information. Thank you
The Submariniers Association dnt think the blazer badge is to do with their association and maybe not a submarine. The top of the badge does look a bit different I have to say. I looked at a lot of naval badges and the only one I could see as a close match was the one with a submarine across it. Other than that I couldn’t identify anything with that horizontal shape across it. They dnt have details for William Perry so I have a couple of options to find out about the medals and blazer badge.
Yes I did think so. He was very helpful and I always appreciate assistance but perhaps the photo was too blurred to see. Is there some difference here where I have marked below the crown please the three/four darker shapes? I think it possibly just the colouring on the photo thanks again.
