I'm looking for information on a veteran, admittedly with very limited information - but I have always enjoyed a challenge. Vet was RCAF and awarded 1. The 1939-1945 Star, 2. The Air Crew Europe Star, 3. Defence Medal, 4. Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp, 5. War Medal 1939-1945. His name tag is a hand written W.O.I. Scroggie 53B RCAF I think this is Warrant Officer 1 and looks like either 53 letter B or just 538, Surname Scroggie If I'm in the wrong forum, my apologies and names of alternative forums or sites appreciated cheers
There was an airman, R78394 Sgt James Scroggie, of Toronto who was "dangerously injured" in the loss of Wellington DV709, a No. 26 OTU machine, which crashed on 31 May 1942. Accident Vickers Wellington Mk IC DV709 , 31 May 1942 He appears to be the only Canadian Scroggie who made the media in the war. The photograph of your Scroggie with the senior officer doesn't help at all. Regards, Dave
If this is the same family, there is an obit for a man who might be his brother which came up when I did a web search. "Predeceased by brother James Scroggie (late Albi), survived by sister ... Alan was a proud veteran of the RCAF during WWll and worked at ..." But the full obituary is behind a paywall. PressReader.com - Your favorite newspapers and magazines.

Hi there. This is likely my grandfather James Scroggie. I am just finding what information I have on him now.
So the obituary is not my grandfathers, but the grave marker in Mount pleasant is his. He was unmarked for many many years and we put it in. My family has never had his medals but I was able to dig up some information years ago when I was looking into who he was (he died long before I was born) I am looking at a copy of his service award card and the following are checked off 39-45 STAR A/C EUR STAR DEFENCE MEDAL GEN. SER. MEDAL C.V.S.M I can confirm that the sgt listed in the second post R78394 is my grandfather. I have the accident report for his plane going down. This is all very exciting.
Pamela, Welcome aboard. It is both amazing and regular that people find this website where a family member is the topic. Please add what you can.
If you don't already have his full service record seems it is free to apply for it here: https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/transparency/atippr/Pages/Access-information-military-files.aspx
